Now that the Super Bowl is over and life is almost back to normal (for us Broncos fans!), it's time to remind ourselves that other sports do exist.
Air + Style Innsbruck came and went just like that, but amidst challenging weather conditions, it was obvious things wouldn't go favourably for most of the riders.
For starters, prominent riders like Ståle Sandbech, Sven Thorgren and Yuki Kadono couldn't advance to the finals. We've come to expect strong performances from all of them, so this was completely unexpected.
The first upset of the night went to Billy Morgan ousting Max Parrot. Norwegian rookie defeated compatriot Kim Rune Hansen. In the second upset of the night, Mark McMorris was great until Torgeir Bergrem did even better. Seb Toots scored higher than Eric Willet and ultimately took the top spot. Marcus Kleveland came in second and Bergrem third. Parrot and McMorris had taken the top two spots in Beijing, but fell short this time.
Despite the fact that Thorgren, Sandbech and Parrot didn't place in Innsbruck (they did in Beijing), they scored high enough to be the leaders heading into the final stop in LA.
Stay tuned – the ramp in Innsbruck was the highest that Air + Style has ever built, so LA will probably stick with the dimensions. It will no doubt be an epic finale to one of the world's most iconic big air competitions.
